Reponse to reading

In my reading I learned that there have been a lot of religions that have passed through India. The main religion though in India is Hinduism. Buddhism showed it’s self for the first by with a man named Zarathustra who perched renunciation of desire as the key to human salvation. It’s one of the worlds greatest religious it had large influence on people through out the land.
With the change of religion there also has been change or people who have taken control of India one such group are the Mughals. The Mugals took over India in 1519 lead by a man who said he was the decent of Genghis Khan who was once a Mugal leader. With the rule of the Mughals India was looking very bright with many great leaders. One of the greatest leaders was Akbar who some compared to Elizabeth of England; he was big on art and literature. When Akbar took control of the empire he was very young with that he had advisors who helped him through until he was older and he took full control of the empire himself. He ruled and empires with many religions to get Hindu support he threw out poll taxes which strengthen him rein as emperor. Akbar made the administration of system that linked land with military. This helped seeing commanders of troops with this system as with payment then you got 10 then you’d get 10,000 troops in your command.
Mughals brought their own type of art to India when they came it was know as Indo-Persian. With Abkar was big on building up his empire he mad schools, ponds, and great monuments. He also had Fathpur-Sikri built as a celebration for his first son being born. They built many great buildings under the Munghal rain such as the Lofty Portal which is called the perfect architectural achievement in India. Its color weathered to a soft rose. It has red pillars of sand stone with balconies and much more.

India

Well it the 7th largest continent and the 2nd most populated one. It has one of the largest mountain ranges the Hymnals. It’s a third world country it’s not very developed yet, but I have read that they are starting to industrialize which is good the country needs to improve. Its people have a red dot on their head I really don’t know what it stand for, but I think it has something to do with their god which has like 6 arms which is kind of crazy if you ask me. The main religion is Hinduism it’s like really popular there most of the people believe in it. Along with it there are also Buddhist and Jainism I don’t really know much about any of them other then that they are pretty old compared to most religions. So I really don't know alot about India thats pretty much it right there.

Reflection free write

In the book power of one Peekay is a pretty big deal from what has been read. I think he's like Flash the superhero because he's quick minded and quick with his hands as Flash is the faster person on earth. He's also like Superman he's for the people of Africa like Superman is for the people of the world. They all have special powers in some kind of way. He is and individual among people as he is really smart and a great boxer which he doesn't have in common with very many people in the story. So he's kind of a stand out among everyone else. He's is very successful through his life with the help of many people that make him great, even better than he would of been because of what they teach his in life is so great to him and helps him along the way. He is a hard working kid that doesn't take hand outs. Its like not cool to get handouts for him, he wants to make his own way through the world saying he did it himself not getting handouts from no one ever. The boy is also a great boxer he should of met Muhammad Ali because they were like the same kind of boxing both fast. Peekay had head then heart as what he went by, Ali had float like a butterfly sting like a bee. They could have been good together owning people. When he got the name tadpole angel he came something more than just a boxer white man. He became the symbol for Africa he was the true leader of Africa and noone else could be like him he had some kind of speical juju about him that made him way different then anyone before him so he was a big deal to the black people as he was a symbol of something new coming their way and to Africa.

The Power of One

The young boy Peekay has come a long way since the time in boarding school he has made many more friends and learned so much for a child his age, only eleven years old and he his smarter than most kids in any age. With his new friends come life lesson, but one of the most important lessons was just a saying by Doc.

Doc teaches Peekay many lessons through this time with Doc, from teaching him Latin, and all about planet and music. One day Doc gives Peekay one of most valuable saying that will stick with Peekay forever. “The searcher after truth must search with humanity. Ruthless logic is the sign of limited mind. The truth can only add to the sum of what you know, while a harmless mystery left unexplored it is better left as a mystery.” What I think Doc is telling Peekay is to keep an open mind know matter what. You want to be knowledgeable, but don’t always go with what other people say. See truth in many ways don’t close your mind about other even though its how others see them. Keep open minded an open hearted about others in life.

When Captain Smit and KlipKop find out what had happen to Geel they look for justice in their own way. Lieutenant Borman was responsible for his death. So Smit takes him to the gym and puts a beat down on him. With this you see the Captain Smit has over come the hate against Geel for being a kaffir. He has over comes his hate like all people for this man, yes it is only one put you see how they have come to realize that he was kind of a friend and opened their hearts to the old man. With the beating of Borman it put aside race it was kind of respect and love for Geel Peit as he was a great teacher for boxing and rubbed off on everyone. Captain Smit showed that he went cross the color line for someone he had a liking to and didn’t think the way he died was fit for Geel.

So with that we see that times are changing and that even though some one is different then you they can be someone special. To everyone at the Prison Geel was special even if they didn’t like to admit it he was a friend. Geel Peit had respect from everyone and will be missed. Smit showed that when he took Borman into and took it to him.

Africa response

With Josh's information I found out that the Africa people weren’t slaves for very long, but they suffered allot of discrimination. The concentration camps sound pretty bad, and not letting animal colored people have voting rights or very little rights at all is said. They had like revolutionary war over in South Africa, but it sounds different with the guerrilla war far. This information has showed me what kind of fighting has gone on in Africa over the many years. I see that with the fighting it’s not helping Africa to much its more likely making it worse.

Shannon’s wasn’t too different from what I learned in the book I had read from I knew about the diamonds and other riches that African rely on. The main cities I learned about though I didn’t know about them as much so it was nice to learn about the. Also I learned that Dutch were the first to settle in Africa I thought it was Britain. The other main income of the fruit and tobacco I didn’t know was a large part of Africa that was pretty cool to know.

Africa Background

When Africa was first colonized the native people where seen as a lesser race to the Europeans that settled there. They labeled them as savages that were cannibals. The first man to find meet with Africa natives was Vasco do Gama. When he met with the natives he found them very kind and came with food and trading animals. It was in the later years that the Khoisan were called savages. With white people pushing the Khoisan into undesirable areas to live where they learned to live off of hunting and gathering made white think that these people where primitive beings compared to them. With the Khoisan going back to the ways of the bushmen they soon became amusement for people to see. Some where killed and put into a museum to be on display for people to all see. Scientist look at the Bushmen as animals that they could perform tests on and just treat like they were some wild thing they had found. With scientist looking at these people they soon found out they weren’t as primitive as thought out to be they had a complex language, along with there technical skills in there environment. They also had a very well organized social relationship. They were extremely caring for their children along with their elders. Bushmen were well skilled artist as there is rock painting all over Africa that are very detailed for that time of art. There are over 30,000 rock art sites in South Africa. When the art was found in the 1900s people concluded that no one from Africa could of make such great art so it was thought to be from others who had set foot in Africa. When the Bushmen were finally credit for the art it was in the 1990s when South Africa’s apartheid regime collapsed as the art portrays belief of the San people or Bushmen.

Africa is a very rich continent as it has many resources from many various types of plants (8,500) to a ton of diamonds. Africa is a harsh land to grow plants as in is very dry and the soil is very rocky. With the finding of diamonds, gold, platinum, chromium, nickel, and many other valuable materials, has helped Africa with that problem of bad farming. With all those great a shiny things Africa sit has one great thing to add to its many wonders. The Bushveld Igneous Complex it is not like anything on earth not only is it jam backed with various of minerals, it is also the largest complex in the known world stretching 25,480 miles. The complex single handle got Africa 5 billion dollars in U.S. money to its economy in 1995.

The first sitting of wealth in Africa was by a Dutch man who went and visited a friend next to the Vaal River in 1867. A child was playing with a shinny stone that caught the man’s eye and asked the father of the child if he could buy it from them. He got it for feed the father had no idea that it was a diamond. With in 3 years after the find of the diamond over 5,000 prospectors were staking their claims. With the finding of diamonds they found the mother load you could say which became known as Kimberley. It was the the biggest man hole in the world 985 feet across and 295 feet deep. Kimberley had produced more diamond than any other place in the world. This brought Africa many jobs which brought a pretty good pay for people. With the people making such good pay as miner it was adding up, so the mine owners turned to convicts as it was cheaper to get them to work. They couldn't quite or leave they worked as long as they were told. Then in 1932 they stopped using convicts and got worker, but by then the work places where like prisons and people where held there until their contract was up. There was no contact to the outside world and they moved through a fence that roofed over the top of them so they couldn't throw diamonds to family.

Some say Africa that Africa isn't able to hold a strong goverment it was never ment to work. Africa is at the bottom of the list with health, food, educationn, and many other problems. WIth only a small percentage of people living in homes that have good food and water. Also witht he bad health, Africa has a large number of diseases with twenty-five million poeple infected by AIDS. With that there are many other diseases that are in Africa that have deadly effects on people.

Africa is also the second largest continent in the world its a big deal.Well Africa is the most dangerous continent in the world. Why is this because pretty much everything that lives there can kill you. This is also were aids originated so its pretty scary over there. Then they also have giant civil wars going on in the country. In this giant land it has the longest river the Nile and the largest desert the Sahara. It is home to a cart load of animals from hippos to sharks.
